![]() ![]() The only way I got her off my back was to lie to her and say that I was scared of getting too emotionally attached to patients and thought I couldn't emotionally handle it. Although that plan didn't pan out and instead I got a degree in finance, I still understand where my parents were coming from with their concern.Īnd lol during high school my mom was trying to persuade me to go into medicine. I think I almost gave them a heart attack. I distinctly remember the day when i was a freshman in high school and told my parents I wanted to pursue a degree in music. And as Vernon mentioned in the tweet linked in the post, he dropped out of middle school/ got homeschooled.Īlso good luck on whichever field you decide to study in when the time comes! I definitely understand that struggle when it comes to your wishes/your parents wishes. Since Seventeen have been in the spotlight since pre debut we also know who graduated or not based on the graduation videos Pledis have taken of them. I mean not everything is out in the open and things we know 100% sure but I think this is pretty much true? Usually when idols go to university there is an article about it. Like I mentioned earlier in my post I was raised with the idea that going to college WAS the only option and having just graduated myself I sometimes do forget that not everyone follows the same path. I'm very aware that higher education (especially in America) is an extreme privilege and I don't want to shame anyone who hasn't gone to college.ĮDIT 2: I also just want to mention that I know going to college isn't the only successful career path people can take following high school. I'm incredibly proud that all of Seventeen's sacrifices paid off and that the boys are EXTREMELY successful now.ĮDIT: Also I hope I don't offend anyone with this post. I don't know how else to end this post but let me just say this. I know the decision for them to do so was probably hard for them as well considering how strict the Korean education system is and how important education seems to be in Korea. I know that recently Seungcheol and Jeonghan enrolled in that one program with a couple of NU'EST members and that during debut Jeonghan was doing an advertising major? not really sure about that but other than them the other members have spent the rest of their lives focusing on their careers as entertainers/performers. So I guess it still always surprises me when I remember that most of the members have only graduated high school. Even though I didn't take the typical Doctor/Engineer path that most Indian parents want for their children, I still have aspirations to go to law school, which is still higher education. Not going to college was just never NOT an option for me. And since I mostly interacted with people at the same socioeconomic level as me growing up almost everyone I know is at least college-educated. ![]() As an Asian American with immigrant parents, I was raised to believe that education was incredibly important in order for me to succeed in life and my parents have made a lot of sacrifices in order for me to get a good education. ![]() Sometimes I forget just exactly how much Seventeen has sacrificed their youth due to their training and a part of that sacrifice was their education. I want to first preface by saying this post isn't to shame anyone in Seventeen and that your education level does not dictate your how intelligent an individual is and that intelligence is not the sole factor in determining one's self-worth.
